Frequently Asked Questions...

What is the difference between a Swedish Massage and a Therapeutic Massage?

A Swedish Massage is typically a more relaxing and soothing massage where light but firm pressure is used to relax the muscles. Therapeutic Massage is a deep tissue massage that utilizes techniques such as knuckles, elbows, forearms and focuses on relieving any trigger points and knots in your muscles. Therapeutic massage may also include moving limbs to provide stretch or to determine range of motion.

Is massage always appropriate?

For several medical conditions massage is inappropriate. For this reason, you will be asked to complete a medical intake form outlining your history as well as any medications you make be taking. If you are under a doctor’s care or treatment, it is advised that you receive a written recommendation prior to your session to ensure you are able to receive your massage. I would love for you to receive a massage, but for your safety I may be forced to turn you away.

What should I expect when I arrive for my appointment?

We will review your intake form to ensure there are no medical reasons that would prohibit your receiving a massage. I’ll ask questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, the sort of pressure you are expecting and what your goal is in receiving a massage. (i.e. relax, reduce pain, increase range of motion etc.)

Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music will be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort and you will be completely covered by sheets and a soft blanket except when a specific area is being massaged.

What should I wear during my massage?

For a full body massage, most people undress completely. You may choose to keep wearing your panites/boxers, if it makes you feel more comfortable. You will be given privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except the area being worked on. Please keep in mind any clothing you leave on, will remain covered and can limit what work can be done to those areas.

What do I do during my massage?

Make yourself comfortable, relax and let yourself go. If your position needs to be adjusted, I will either move you or will ask you to move as is needed. Otherwise, you are free to change your position at any time to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It is completely up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

What if I fall asleep?

You are encouraged to relax and unwind as much as possible, if that means you get in a quick nap while you're at it, that's okay with me.

Will the massage medium used cause me to breakout?

The massage medium I use is hypoallergenic, and should not cause a breakout. If however, you are hypersensitive to certain materials, please let me know.

How long will my massage last?

You can choose from 30, 60 or 90 minute sessions. The 60 and 90 minute massages can be used for a full body massage, while the 30 minute session will be used to focus on specific areas such as neck, shoulder, legs, or feet. Whichever you choose, you will receive the full session length, provided you are not late for your appointment.

How will I feel after the massage?

Most people feel relaxed. As toxins are released from the bodies’ soft tissue during a massage, it is recommended that you hydrate following your massage to assist in flushing them out of your system. Since my sessions are therapeutic in nature, taking an Epsom salt bath or icing the areas of focus post session may also prove beneficial.

How often can I get a massage?

You may wish to receive therapeutic work or cupping sessions with at least a week or two between appointments.

Can I purchase a gift certificate?

Yes, gift certificates are available for purchase in any dollar amount or for a specific service.

Is gratuity accepted?

While gratuity is welcome and very much appreciated, it is not required.
